The Trio Foundation’s funding for Habitot’s Art & Literacy art-making kits aimed for children ages 4-8 years old has been fully expended. The application to receive kits is currently on hold.

Over the last year and a half, over 200 kits with three themes – Print-Making & Stamping, Painting & Drawing, and Puppets & Puppeteering – have been distributed to over 70 families. Our partners have included USF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, Trybe Oakland, Las Semillas, Bananas, Healthy Black Families, Lotus Bloom, Alameda County Social Services, and others.

One parent wrote:

“I feel that this is a great opportunity to spend time with my child, learn together, and form long lasting memories. Also my child deserve other opportunities that are available for her, but we cannot provide because of financial reasons.”

These appreciative families enjoyed multiple parent-child art projects, read art-themed books aloud to their children, and watched bilingual how-to videos.

We are currently seeking additional funding and donations to support the distribution of more great kits to families with few resources for art materials.
