STEM Science Series: Evenings of Invention!

We’re presenting a 4-week, hands-on science series for 4-8 year olds, April 5-26. Our “Evenings of Invention” classes have been developed by microbiologist and early years science educator, Julia Martien PhD, who will introduce your child to mechanical and electrical engineering, robotics, and computer programming with age-appropriate projects and games. Children will build their own objects that help them grasp scientific concepts.

Drop-off 5:30-7:00pm, 5689 Bay St., Tuesdays in April. Each class $27 per child. Space is limited. Register HERE

Tuesdays in April, 2024
5689 Bay Street, Emeryville

Equip your child with experience and confidence in the fields of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, and Computer Programming. In this four-week course, young scientists will build their own unique creations that they can take home to share what they learned with their families.

Bionic Bots
Young scientists will develop mechanical engineering skills as they create an articulated robotic arm that can grasp objects.

Automata
Young scientists will explore the fundamentals of motion transmission systems by building a dancing automaton toy.

Squishy Circuits
Young scientists will gain hands-on experience with electric circuits by making a battery powered lightbulb with an on-off switch from play dough.

Decoded
Young scientists will be introduced to computer programming language by playing gross-motor games with their classmates. They will dive into the world of encoded information by creating bracelets that spell their name using a cipher inspired by the genetic code.

In-School & Afterschool Programs

Habitot is offering in-school and afterschool enrichment programs for the 2023-2024 school year. Our scaled-down Mobile Museum experiences are aimed towards TK – 3rd grade children as one-time or semester-based programs. Habitot will bring teaching artists and makers into schools to lead fun hands-on art, science, and design-oriented activities for 45-90 minute sessions.

Teachers and after school programs can select from a number of art and maker-based activities including:

  • Make and Launch a Rocket
  • Gelli Block Printmaking
  • Build and Float a Boat
  • Create a Terrarium
  • Make a Cape
  • Spin Art
  • Bubble Explorations
  • and many more!

Our lessons bridge art making and scientific inquiry by engaging young people in observing patterns, systems, and physical phenomena in the creative process. Students will come away with their own unique creations from the activities. Our facilitation will emphasize discovery, experimentation, play, and joy. Habitot is all about process over product.
