An Outstanding Preschool Teacher

For The Bay Area “Preschool Teachers

Make a Difference” Awards

From now through May 31, Habitot Children’s Museum is accepting nominations of exemplary preschool teachers for its 5th annual “Preschool Teachers Make Difference" awards. Preschool teachers from throughout the Bay Area are eligible. Ten exemplary preschool teachers will be selected by an independent panel of judges. Judges include: Dr. Stacy Thompson, former Department Chair and Faculty of Child Development at Merritt College, member of the Advisory Panel on Oakland Head Start, and current Dean of Academic Pathways and Student Services at Merritt College; Tanya Smith, Senior Quality Counts Coach for Alameda County First 5, which mentors and coaches teachers in licensed childcare centers; and Laura Arellano of Growing Light Montessori preschool and a 2012 Preschool Teachers Make a Difference Winner.

Over 400 preschool teachers have been nominated since Habitot launched the awards program, and over 40 have been awarded gift certificates for classroom supplies, educational products, free field trip visits to Habitot, and wide recognition for their outstanding contributions to early childhood education. This year's community partners include Red Tricycle, Oogiah, Savvy Source, AskANanny, Do-A-Dot Art, and more.

Gina Moreland, Habitot Executive Director and Founder says. "Preschool teachers lay the groundwork for kindergarten readiness and for a child's positive experiences in school. We are honored take leadership in celebrating their accomplishments and their critical role in society."

Nominations can be submitted online at through May 31 at 5:00 pm. Winners will be notified on July 8th and celebrated at a "Back To School” Reception and Awards Ceremony at Habitot Children’s Museum, September 30, 2013, 6:30 pm. The public is invited by advance reservation.
