"Positive Parenting" Workshop

Do naughty steps and sticker charts work?  And what about the “time out?” What kind of discipline is right for you and your toddler? 

Join us for this FREE interactive workshop designed to teach parents how to provide Positive Discipline to their children.

Explore different parenting styles and learn practical and effective ways to encourage cooperation, mutual respect, and self-discipline in your toddler.

Don't Throw It Away! Stuffed Animal Repair

Does your child have a stuffed animal that has been loved until the seams have split? We'll have stuffing, sewing supplies, and staff ready to help parent and child pairs make repairs. Or, if you have a perfectly healthy stuffed animal, you can make a felt bandaid, just like the ones in our Animal Hospital Exhibit, to take home for dramatic play.

Freight Fest

Berkeley's highly-regarded performance venue for traditional music, Freight & Salvage, is hosting a great family event with music on multiple stages (Alphabet Rockers at 11:30), dancing, food trucks, and family-friendly activities. Habitot will be there to share our Imagination Playground blocks and our love of learning through play.

Jamaroo Kids teacher, Kelty, will get those wiggles out while helping little kids develop coordination, strength, balance, flexibility, and self-esteem.

Pizza Fridays

Easy peasy pizza lunch gives you more time to play! The pizza comes in kid-size slices that are $1.50 each. Parents are welcome to fill up on kid slices too.

Recycled Art Fridays

Let your imagination go wild! The Recycled Materials Art Cart holds industry cast-offs, and both unusual and household items that would otherwise be destined for the dump. Come give these objects a new life by creating art! Sponsored by.

Be a recycling superhero when you turn an old t-shirt into a new superhero cape. Bring an old colored, adult-sized large t-shirt to the Art Studio (we'll have some on hand). Together, you'll cut it into a cape and then design your own superhero crest to iron on!

Art Studio: Art activity inspired by Ohlone basket making. Weave and decorate, or make a natural materials collage. Have you ever wondered about contemporary Ohlone basket making? Here's a video of the Ohlone Basket Weaver, Linda Yamane, keeping her cultural traditions alive. 

Museum: Check out our photo essay celebrating people and history North America's indigenous people. Join in a community weaving project inspired by the upright looms used for Navajo rug weaving. Curious about this tradition? Here's a video of Vanessa Begay-Lee weaving a Navajo rug

Not-Too-Spooky Halloween

Fun, treats, and prizes at our Not-Too-Spooky Halloween! Not-Too-Spooky decorations will start going up in mid-October and stay through Halloween. Come show us your costume anytime!  

Art Studio: Excavate bugs from frozen monster hands. Paint miniature pumpkins, while supplies last. Come play with pumpkin slime.  

Museum: Play miniature golf in the Toddler Garden tombstone graveyard. Visit the Witches Apothecary in the grocery store for some Not-Too-Spooky sensory play. Pizza lunch $1.50 kid slices. 

October is Fire Safety Month!
Saturday, October 19

With the support of the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation, local puppeteer Toni “Tone” Mikulka, will present an original work featuring a fire fighter and a fire-burping dragon to help young kids learn safety tips and how to respond in the event of a fire. Thoughout the month, there will be pop-up mini-puppet shows in the Fire Engine Exhibit. Dates TBA.
