Ways to Give

Volunteers build strong programs at Habitot, and help us conserve cash in tight times. It is especially critical for us to find those with time and expertise (grandparents, professional colleagues?) who want to “give back” to a successful nonprofit organization. Here are some ways for volunteers to "plug-in."

Volunteer Bank

Have a few hours every so often when you could deliver brochures to pediatricians' offices or help with bulk mailings? If you are willing to be "on-call" when Habitot needs a few hours of volunteering, please join our Volunteer Bank by contacting the Operations Manager at

Fundraising Events

Volunteer to help with special fundraising events! Solicit auction and raffle items, put your party planning expertise to work. These volunteers support our goals to raise needed funds for homeless birthday party programs, free access for low-income families, caregiver support programs and more through raffles, special events, galas, in-home parties, family events, etc. Contact the Development Office for information.

Board Membership

We especially need those with time and expertise (retired business professionals, grandparents, stay-at-home parents, experienced fundraisers) who want to “give back” through service on Habitot’s Board of Directors. Contact

Exhibits Task Force

This task force meets to develop new exhibit ideas, from concept to fundraising to corporate sponsorships, to fabrication. Usually, Habitot develops or enhances one new exhibit per year, depending on funds raised. We welcome those with expertise in cabinetry/construction, graphic or interior design, exhibit or trade show displays, art. Contact

Spit 'n Polish Crew

Twice a year, Habitot welcomes 10-12 person crews for a day (or half-day) of deep cleaning, painting and light repairs on exhibit spaces. Events take place in September during the Week of Caring (organized by United Way and the Volunteer Centers) and in early April prior to Habitot's annual birthday celebration. Great for corporate team building events! Contact

Help manager with our two collections - toys in our Toy Lending Library, and books, periodicals, videos and other parenting references in our Family Resource Center. Volunteer librarians help maintain the collections, make calls for overdue items, sort and reshelve returned items, add new items to the collection. Requires light physical activity and comfort with computers/databases. Contact

Art Show Curator

Each year, Habitot places dozens of art works by children under 7 in community locations. The Art Show Curator identifies and secures community locations, selects, mats, frames and installs works, and works with Habitot staff on marketing efforts. Curators are recognized publicly and in all print publications. The Art Show Curator commits approximately 80 hours over 3-4 months. Contact
