"Creativity and early childhood development are my passions," says Nairobi Kim, which is why Habitot appealed to her. A mom of two girls, she believes in giving back to the community so that all children have access to programs and care that help them learn and develop new skills. She has served on other nonprofit boards such as the Imagine Bus Project which provides art education to underserved youth. As a management consultant and systems architect, she contributes experise in assessing problems, providing high level strategy and implementation protocols.

Jill is honored to serve as the Secretary of the Board for Habitot. She joined the board in 2016 due to her passion for education, and her deep belief in Habitot's work to bring fun and enriching play-based learning to all kids in the East Bay. Jill serves as a Project Analyst in the Division of Student Affairs in UC Berkeley, and oversees the strategy and operations for Revolve, a community that creates peer-led values-based leadership development experiences through a Jewish lens. She is excited to be part of the Habitot Board at this exciting moment of growth and opportunity, and would love to speak with you about how you can get involved!

Rebecca Haskell
Education Design Consultant
Just Design Consulting

For the past year and a half Rebecca has been the Founder and Education Design Consultant at Just Design Consulting. In this role, Rebecca works with schools and education organizations to provide organizational design and strategy, personal and professional development opportunities, and leadership coaching. Rebecca has spent her career in education serving as a Kindergarten teacher, instructional coach, curriculum designer, and Assistant Principal. She has volunteered, studied, and worked in education in cities across the U.S. and abroad. Rebecca refined her art of instruction, school design, and teacher support through her experience in education, as well as in her study and research during her bachelor's degree at Boston University’s School of Education and during her master's degree at Columbia University's Teachers College. She seeks to infuse social justice into her life, community, and work. Rebecca joined the Board in 2016. She is a proud auntie of 2 young kiddos and lives in Oakland.

Ava Kelly

Stealth Social-Gaming Start-Up

Ava Kelly is currently the Chief Strategy Officer for a stealth start-up in the social-gaming industry. Ava is a business professional with over 20 years of global experience in product and line of business management, strategic planning, marketing, advertising and team leadership at leading brands such as Visa and American Express. Ava has held senior executive positions in the payments industry for the last 16 years including the Head of Global Affluent Strategy and the Head of Consumer Credit for North America at Visa and the Director of Strategic Planning and Advertising and Director of Marketing, Global Establishment Services at American Express. Ava received her BA in Commerce and Economics from the University of Toronto, Canada. Ava and her family have been members of Habitot since 2008 and joined the Board of Directors in 2012. She and her husband live in Oakland with their daughter.

Stef Tousignant, a designer and entrepreneur with both architectural and fine arts degrees and wide experience in childcare design, shares Habitot's philosophy saying, "children should always be free to be children – to play, laugh, experiment, and get messy." She is the marketing director at MommyNearest, the fastest growing mobile community for parents and caregivers in the U.S. She is also the nanny blogger at and the founder of the community building event The Great Baby Romp -San Francisco. Ms. Tousignant joined Habitot's Board in 2014. She is the mother of two boys and lives in San Francisco.

Gina Moreland, ex officio

Habitot Children’s Museum

Gina Moreland founded Habitot in 1992, and has served as its executive director since opening in 1998. In 2006, she was honored for her years of public service in creating Habitot with a Bay Area “Jefferson Award,” as well as with a 2006 proclamation from the City of Berkeley as “Early Childhood Champion of the Year.” She holds a Master’s degree in Education, a California teaching credential and a B.A. in Economics from Mt. Holyoke College. She and her husband live in Kensington and have two adult children, both of whom are life-long hands-on learners.
